Why does my husbands phone have Color circles for contacts?

Color circles for contacts

My husband has a LG G3 and has noticed that in the call log each call has a different color circle next to the name and number..some are purple, some are tan with white stripes, and still others are tan....what does this mean?

Welcome to Android Central! I believe it's just a way to more easily differentiate names alphabetically. Not sure if you can edit the colors.

Can we get an accurate answer? These colors are all random. Trying to clear up duplicates and contacts with duplicated numbers.

They are randomized colors for the contacts. This is how Android displays contacts that have no picture associated with them. Is there a problem you want a solution for? Or are you just asking for information about contact colors?

Thanks Xoco! I was wondering the same thing myself (new LG G3 as of yesterday) - if it is just how Android/Lollipop displays contacts with no pictures, that makes sense. I was trying to figure out if the colors actually meant something (such as primary method of contact (Work, Home, Cell, etc), but nothing made sense.

The varying colors of the contacts is not random on my phone (Galaxy S5).
Each time I add a contact it selects the next color in the sequence...
Blue, Green, Orange, Orange
Blue, Green, Orange, Orange...

It just looks untidy in the Contacts list, and I see no way of changing it - apart from adding a contact a few times until it's the color you want, and deleting the unwanted ones. You could also create some simple color pictures to assign to each profile picture (if you don't have their photo)
