Why does my LG G3 screen flicker and fades to darkness?

So, after reading stories of people actually getting out-of-warranty phones fixed for free by LG, I decided to give that a try. Started the process on the internet, called and got an RA number, sent the phone in, and finally heard the following:
Phone is out of warranty. Either pay ~$150 or we'll return the phone to you without making repairs.

I expect my next step will be to call LG and try to elevate the problem to get this repair done free of charge since it's obviously a defect. Has anyone else succeeded in this approach? Any insight would be appreciated.

How much did the repair cost? They offered for me to send it in but could not tell me how much it would cost. Also said it would take 7 - 10 days to repair!

When I called today (after reading through this post) they also offered to have me send it in to be repaired, but could not give me a cost estimate. Which is when I started in on this being a known issue. She had no reply to that. I have had my phone 15 months with no problem, no damage and all of a sudden when there is a problem that is an obvious known issue, they are going to act like it is my problem?

My experience exactly. Apparently once it's out of warranty they make it the user's problem. The response I got when I tried to argue that they should just cover the cost of the repair of this known issue was something to the effect of 'we have no process to get around your paying for this.'
The amount they quoted me for screen replacement was $146.

Still working. Keeping fingers crossed. btw I posted the following to LG's repair site today: "I appreciate that you fixed the screen on my phone. It took two tries, but now it does seem to be working after about a week so we'll see. There is a thread on the Android Central forums (http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-g3/527306-why-does-my-lg-g3-screen-flicker-fades-darkness.html ) of frustrated LG G3 users and their efforts to get similar fixes. I have posted my success there. I think you would do yourselves a favor and these loyal customers a good service by posting something there that offers to fix these people's broken phones. It's a handful of supporters of the LG G3 that are now being turned off by the fact that their phones are unusable right after the warranty period. What do you think?"

Posting that was a good idea. Now let's see what they do about it. I actually called my local U Break I Fix store and they can replace the screen for the same price (minus a 10% discount because we are repeat customers (teenage boys!?) but only take 3 hours instead of the 7 - 10 days that LG was quoting me. You are right, after this experience I will not be purchasing another LG. I take very good care of my devices and have touted the G3 to others (up until now). I did nothing to cause this issue.

bro do you think its screen problem ? i dont wanna waste my money for a brand new screen for nothing.. im afraid theres something more than just screen.. but dont know what it is .. can you please give some update if you fix it ?

I'm from Sydney bought the Phone July 2014 online from HK shop. The problem started just this November (its just started doing that screen flicker/dimming) .I dropped my phone (with rubber casing) around 3 times before but no issues experienced after that. I really like the Phone, but reading all the comments from this thread, it seems its LG quality issue. I was thinking of buying the LG G4 before, but unless LG address this problem, will not buying from them this time.

Well, the new screen did not last long. About 24 hours and it started flickering and fading to black again. Makes me think it is not the screen, but something else.

andirobinson - I had the exact same experience. Really ticked me off. So I sent it back again. They fixed again. It's been working now for a couple of weeks. So send it back again!

I actually took it to the U Break I Fix store and they did it cheaper and within 2 hours! But they said that if it did not work, to bring it back in. LG was going to charge me to send it in and make the repair and they were going to have my phone for 7 - 10 days!

I'm planning to get the screen replaced locally tomorrow. Should I hold off on that then?

Yes, they put on a brand new screen and it is still doing the same thing. So it is clearly not a screen issue. U Break I Fix is actually valuing me as a customer (unlike LG) and is basically going to give me a new phone so I don't have to deal with LG. I just need to back up my phone and take it back in tomorrow.

Another victim of this issue on my G3. Did my own screen replacement and currently on 2nd one bought from amazon. I also have replacement aftermarket batteries...anyone else with aftermarket batteries. Wondering if the output is frying something, best guess I got

My guess is that the connectors on the MOTHERboard that the screen uses to plug into are the issue...bad/damaged pins on a board means you gotta replace the connector not screen...Which i dunno how / if thats a repair that can be made without soldering crap

That is what the guys who looked at my phone said - it is probably a motherboard issue...

Promosrus - I am a frequent flyer of the store by us (I have 2 teenage boys!) so I think that is why they are being so good to me. It is actually the phone that they use for training, so it is not brand new, but at least everything on it works!

hey guys just registered here im in a predicament with this and experiencing the exact same problem its been a week now my phone was totally alright before the latest lollipop update...its a big coincidence that this is happening to you guys at the same time as well..im guessing its an either battery or software related issue keep us updated thank you

Well I have two batteries, both came from LG and it happens on them both. I can't say if it happens more on one or the other though.

I've held off on replacing the screen now, since it looks like it will have no affect.

Like many other frustrated users my device is out of the 15 month warranty, no visible screen damage and just started the flickering and fading to black today. Based on my previous experience with LG repairs, I do not trust them. (Sent in my phone twice because the micro SD slot would not read micro SD cards. They claimed they replaced the micro SD reader and this did not solve the issue. I have given up on using a micro SD card because of this). I first noticed the micro SD issue a day after my phone overheated and gave me a message that it was going to turn off, and interestingly enough yesterday my phone overheated similar to before..

Regardless, my question is this: of everyone that has sent their phone in to LG has replacing the screen actually fixed this? Based on my past experiences, I do not want to give LG another chance and pay them for not even a guaranteed repair. Thoughts?
