Why does my Moto X 2014 battery go from 20 to nothing?

Re: Moto X 2014 battery goes from 20% to nothing

Same here. I searched for solutions online and tried the one saying that I should let the battery die and charge it WITHOUT turning it on until it reaches 100% and let it plugged some time after that. Did that (which was stressing because that particular time the battery lasted over 10 minutes at 1% while watching videos on YouTube X__x) and it worked for about 2 days and then back to shutting-off at 10 or even 15%

This is the only thing I hate about my Moto X :(

Re: Moto X 2014 battery goes from 20% to nothing

Mine actually died at 20% today. I plugged the charger in straightaway and it then said on the charging screen that I'd got only 4%! Then I turned the phone back on after about a minute of charging and it said I'd got 30%!!!!!! So basically my phone doesn't have a clue how much juice it's got left

I've been seeing a rapid drop in battery life on my Moto X (2014) over the past few weeks. Last night the phone was at 35% this morning it was dead. Last weekend I did a hard reset hoping to fix the problem.

Not rooted, using stock fast charge Moto X (2014) charger, no battery management app, cleared cache (did not help), hard reset, cleared cache again...

I'm beginning to think that there's no fix for this

Re: Moto X 2014 battery goes from 20% to nothing

This is a sign that a cell is probably bad in the battery. If that's the case, the only fix is to replace the battery, which is not trivial on the Moto X

I'm down to 7 hours of day use before the battery hits 15%, 10 minutes later the phone powers off. At night it's 35% power lose while I sleep. I wonder if this is why we are not seeing Marshmallow, maybe Verizon decided not to upgrade knowing that the battery has problems. My phone is only 17 months old there's no way I'll make it to October for my next upgrade.

I'm having the same issues with my Moto X. I'll try a hard reset but am leaning towards a Nexus now.

My wife and I both have Verizon versions, I'm on 5.1.1 and she's still on kit Kat (will soon get hers on lollipop too), anyways, mentioned this on a similar thread, she and I both have this same problem, the battery will only get down to about 18%-23% and then phone shuts down.

I wanted to also add that this strange behavior is also happening on my 1st Gen moto 360, around 24%-26%, watch shuts down.

I think it's a software and mis-reporting kind of thing as after the phone shuts down around 20% and then you plug it up (before turning it on), the large battery display can show like 2%-4% and charging up from there.

This phone's build is great, like it in the hand too, but looks like nexus on the radar for a future phone.

Re: Moto X 2014 battery goes from 20% to nothing

Mine just shut off at 18%. First time ever. Given the age, I would just chalk it up to an aging battery. I wonder if the Turbo Charger has anything to do with degrading the battery prematurely?

I don't think it's caused by using a turbo charger because I have this problem and I don't use a turbo charger

Same here, although mine made it all the way to 12%!

So I am encountering the same issue with my xt1095 moto x 2nd gen. Except I decided to attempt to restart phone with out recharging and got another hour of use and phone was registering 1% batter for the whole time. I will attempt to show battery history with the cliff that jumps from about 30% it seems like an OS issue going to attempt to go completely stock Android. But it has to be an error in battery reading I charged my phone for 20min that day on a Qualcomm turbo charger this must have confused the battery reading to the Os and tricking the phone to auto shutdown like it would at 5% not sure a solution other than. Maybe not use the turbo charger?

I love my Moto X 2014. <rant>I can deal with the camera not being the best but this battery issue...well it is terrible. I'm averaging about 8 hours a day before it will just turn off. I'm lucky if I get 10 hours. That 12% screen time is 1 hour 21 minutes and the 12% voice calls is 49 minutes. I think I may need a new phone but I love the stock android and the moto software. This battery is killing me. Oh and the 1 hour and 38 minutes left at 15% is more like 1 minute 38 seconds.</rant>

I think more than the battery, it's your signal and also some apps that are keeping your phone awake as per the screenshot. You should check that.

Re: Moto X 2014 battery goes from 20% to nothing

Thanks for the reply. The only app I leave open all the time is Smart Audiobook Player. Otherwise I keep stuff closed. I'm sure there are other apps that are "open". How can I check what is using my battery? My signal struggles at work because of the building. Not sure what I can do about that.

25% is the new 0% for me. Reminds me of the Nexus 4. Depressing.

Someone managed to solve the problem?

"Battery dies at [INSERT NUMBER GREATER THAN 0]%" means the battery is dying.

There are three possible solutions:

1. Get an external battery case for the phone so you aren't dependent on the internal battery. Adds weight.
2. Replace the battery: (not easy on the X2014, sadly) https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Motorola+Moto+X+2nd+Generation+Battery+Replacement/40717
3. Replace the phone (what I did - I loved my Moto X but I've been rocking a Note 4 for a while now). There are plenty of fairly equivalent phones in the used market with batteries that can be replaced - though many manufacturers are going with sealed batteries in their new models. :'(

Wow. So, today I took my phone off the charger at 7am. At 11:40am it said it was at 15%. I plugged it in immediately and it then said it was at 100%. This is a new one on me. I knew I had a problem but it seems to have taken a drastic turn.

Re: Moto X 2014 battery goes from 20% to nothing

I'd blame it on that, but I have never used a Turbo Charger. I'm on the Moto X-2, have had it for a little less than 18 months. It dies like as soon as it makes 15%.
