Nexus 4 keeps downloading 4.4.3

Greetings,

I have an LG Nexus 4, and due to the issues Nexus 4 users were reporting I have avoided updating to Android 4.4.3. With the release of Android 5.0, I wanted to make sure I would get that OTA update so I went ahead and updated to 4.4.3 yesterday (11/12/2014). Since then, my phone has been "updating" to 4.4.3 at least once every hour. I am wondering if my device is catching up to where it should be and I should continue to install the "updates", or if I have angered the respective Kit Kat and Nexus gods and this is the beginning of Ragnarok. Thank you in advance for your time and attention.

Welcome to Android Central! Each time you get an update, it should tell you how big the update file is. Is it the same each time?

If I am going to download anything, it'll be over WiFi because I have poor data coverage in my area. It constantly tries to get me to update regardless of whether I am on WiFi or network.

I wiped the cache partition, and within minutes of rebooting I received a notificaiton that the update to 4.4.3 was available. Just for kicks I checked to see which version I am running, and I am still running 4.4.3.

Well I hear the 5.0 factory image is up for your device so just be patient now lol

Did you also allow that update to occur? Maybe letting it happen once after the cache partition wipe might be all you need.

But I also agree with Smokey--hopefully the Lollipop update will make this go away. Unless, of course, this update loop prevents the Lollipop update from being recognized.

An update to 4.4.4 would need to happen before going to 5.0 I believe. Android updates are typically sequential, in that you need to be on the most current version to get the newest, unless the OEM decides otherwise.

On a Nexus 10 I had to update to 4.3 before I could update to 4.4 for example.

I've hear good things about Lollipop, especially about battery retention. Since updating to 4.4.3 my battery life has been bupkus.

I've re-updated 4.4.3 after clearing the cache partition. Within 20 minutes I received a notification that an update to 4.4.3 is available.

Argh. I can think of two other things to try:

1. Go to the Nexus Help page and click on the Contact Us button at the upper right, go through the selections, and if available, select the "Request a Call" or "Chat" button at the bottom of the window: https://support.google.com/nexus/?hl=en#topic=3415518

2. Factory reset.

Re: Nexus 4 keeps downloading 4.4.3

If you're so inclined and don't mind the wipe you can flash the factory images yourself.

Re: Nexus 4 keeps downloading 4.4.3

Alright, after an hour or so chatting with Google support, the factory wipe/reset did the trick. Immediately after the factory reset I was prompted to update to 4.4.4. Immediately after that, I was prompted to update to 5.0. Huzzuh! Thank you everyone for your input.
