Why does my Nexus 5 go straight into bootloader, after that shows black screen?

Nexus 5 goes straight into bootloader, after that shows black screen.

So, I turned on my phone and now it goes straight to the bootloader. So, when I select "Start" option, screen turns black (can still see backlight shining though). It was sitting there for hours, but screen stayed black.

Anybody has experianced similar problems or has a suggestion?

I did have a rooted phone, but I hadn't tinkered with it for about 6 months.

Well... good news, bad news...

Good news is that if you can go into the bootloader, you can try to reload the factory image to get the phone back up and running.

Bad news is that anything on the phone might be junk....

Either way, you will most likely need to load the factory image :

Or you can use the Wugfresh Nexus Toolkit... (which is hella easy to use). And you might even want to try the 'no wipe' option to load the image and see if you can get it back without wiping your stuff.
