Why does my Nexus 5x screen go black and become completely unresponsive any time I connect a call?

[AC Question]

Any time a call connects, incoming or outgoing, my screen goes black and I am helpless until the call ends. Even to voicemail! I can't put in my pin and am having to use Visual Voice... And I can only end a call with the power button, with that setting enabled. I tried clearing the cache by hitting power and volume simultaneously but that did not work. I have no idea what to do. I do have a screen protector in place... could that be interfering with the proximity sensor?

Welcome to the forums. The screen protector is probably causing the issue. I had one on where the sensor was covered and acted that way until I pulled it off. With every protector I got since then, I made sure the sensor is clear.
