Why does my nexus 9 have performance issues since the marshmallow update

I updated my Nexus 9 to Marshmallow last month and it has been having issues ever since. I believe the problem stems from the fact that when it was installing I left the tablet to let it install and when I returned to it it had an error because there wasn't enough space on the tablet. I cleared some stuff off and then restarted the process and it seemed to update normally.

Soon after I noticed it was performing very poorly. I did some searches and followed since advice and it worked a bit better, but after a few days use it always begins to lag and since the update since the initial update, it seems to be having issues connecting to WiFi.

Is there anything I can do short of a factory reset? I suspect that this could fix the issues, but it's a big pain to do.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Clear the cache via Recovery. Follow the instructtions here: https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/4596836?hl=en

Be sure to clear cache and not factory reset/clear data. If the Cache doesn't work then you likely need to factory reset.

It's funny. Something is going on with mine. Everything I decide to clear cache, it will hang for a while and do nothing. Then if I reboot it will just hang on the boot animation. It always forces me to perform a factory reset to recover functionality. O guess I'm not going to attempt clearing cache anymore?

Since my update to 6.01 I lost almost a gig of space, now my battery drains fast. With my Nexus 6 phone the 6.01 update made my battery life better. It's bewildering.

I highly recommend rooting and flashing CM 13. It revitalized my N9. It's like a completely different tablet.

Still having problems with my device. This one is crap compared to my Nexus 7.
