Why does my old cell number keep showing up when I send a text message?

I recently got a new cell number, but on the same phone. When I send a text message to some numbers, like my spouses number, my old number shows up. The effect is that he gets a "double text". Sometimes it's must my new number, sometimes it's both my numbers, as if it's a group text. Very frustrating because it "splits" our text message string into separate strings. How to fix this??
