Why does my phone beep when I close it?

I have a Samsung Galaxy 3, and for the past several weeks, I've had a strange problem.

When I click the right hand button to "close" the screen (and then put it in my pocket) frequently the phone will make a loud beep. This is particularly disturbing to me when I'm listening to podcasts, since the beep will block the few seconds of the podcast I'm listening to.

I've tried adjusting the notification settings, but nothing helps. It doesn't happen every time, but I can't figure out what is different about the times it does occur. And there's nothing on the screen when it happens (which make sense, since the screen is black at the time).

Hi, it might be worth while booting your phone in to safe mode and using it for a while to see if the beep continues. If it doesn't then you know the beep is coming from an app you have installed on the phone.

Did you turn on screen lock sounds? Go to settings>sounds>scroll to near the bottom. I think it's there.
