Why does my phone go black when i make a call?

Why does my phone go blank when I try making a call, it only lights up when the call is done. I can't. I am not able to do anything else until the call ends.

Usually once you put it to your ear supposed to go off the screen to prevent accidental touches

Welcome to Android Central! Something is probably blocking your proximity sensor, which is right by the front-facing camera. Do you have a poorly-fitting screen protector or case on?
