Why does my phone screen keep going blank and coming back a second or so later?

My G6's screen will go away for a second as if its lots connection or going to a new app and then will come back. It happens whenever I am doing anything on my phone ie. Texting, calling, etc. and very inconsistently.

I tried clearing the clear the cache and reboot. I have restarted my phone multiple times, and nothing is seeming to help.

You are going to think this is a crazy question but please humor me.

Do you use a "wallet" style case on your phone? One with a flip cover?

some sensor is faulty or the display......try a hard reset...
