xfinity wifi keeps connecting to my phone

I have an Galaxy s4 with verizon wireless service and lollipop. Every time I go to certain areas it automatically connects to xfinity and messes up my connection which was just fine. I have used forget network and it just stays on no way to remove the network. It is so annoying in the middle of a data transfer it changes from my mobile network to xfinity and disrupts until I turn off wifi. It then turns back on wifi and causes the same issue. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Re: xfinity wifi keeps connecting to my phone

Welcome to Android Central! Do you have any of the Xfinity apps installed? I think the Xfinity Connect app has a feature where it will automatically search for and connect with any nearby Xfinity wi-fi hotspots. You can turn that off in the app.

Bump! I have the same problem. No xfinity apps. Gs6 active.

I have the same issue. I normally just turn off WiFi when I leave the house now. But I would prefer to just find a way to stop this auto connect to Xfinity hot spots. Switching from data to hotspots interrupts my music streaming among other things. And they are just plain super slow..
s6 Active here...

Edit: Actually I think I found the cure. Won't be sure until I get out and about with the phone but anyway I logged in to my Comcast account on the Comcast website, then went to My Sevices / Xfinity Internet. In there it had another sub panel for managing hotspot devices or something like that.. I should have paid better attention.. But anyway, there was one device listed there that I assume was my phone and there was an option to remove it, which I did. Sorry this is kind of vague, I should have taken a screen shot or something. If someone else does this, hopefully they can give a little better step by step.

I think because I logged in to a hotspot at some point, Comcast then sets you up to auto log in to any Xfinity hot spot from that point on.

I also just turn off the Wi-Fi when I'm driving

I've got sort of the same problem, but I have an IPhone 6.

Anyway, I sometimes go to bars and restaurants to have lunch or whatever, and recently, some of these establishments have installed Xfinity wi-fi hotspots. So, there I was about to look something up with my Safari browser when my internet session (which is usually conducted over the Verizon data network) is hijacked by an Xfinity wi-fi login screen. And I can't get out. There are two options. "Join Xfinity" or "use another network." There is no option for "go away and leave me alone." Well, I don't want to do either so I get frustrated and put the phone away. And that's when the problem begins.

Whatever just happened, my IPhone battery no longer lasts like it did before. Normally, I go through about 20% of the battery, per day. But, after the Xfinity hijacking, my battery dies sometime during the night. In other words, the battery won't even last 24 hours.

The solution? The only one I've found is to wipe my phone clean and start over. A hard reset. But that's not a real solution.

Xfinity should be ashamed of themselves. Hijacking people's online sessions is not cool. A word to the wise: Until Xfinity stops the games, turn off your wifi when you leave the house. :(

See if "WiFi Ruler" (Google Play) works for you folks. It works for me - there's only one xfinitywifi BSSID I want to connect to, so there's a check box to "only allow connections to this BSSID [mac address]"

Basically, you tell your phone to forget 'xfinitywifi', then add each individual xfinitywifi BSSID (access point/hotspot) that you DO want to connect to to whichever rule suits you, but make sure to tick the checkbox for "only this [mac address]"

Re: xfinity wifi keeps connecting to my phone

Forget Xfinity wifi hotspot works for me. I connect when I want then do a forget and it never connects again unless I activate it again. What I don't like is I think it should force log on every time so you know it is legit. Any boob could open a wifi channel and call it xfinity hotspot the hack data when you're on it. Xfinity only made me log in once. It never has again even though I forget the network often.

This is the Sprint Connections Optimizer. To turn off, you go to Settings>>Mobile Networks>>Connections Optimizer, zap out (unclick) Partner Wi-Fi

I'm frustrated with the same problem... Haven't found a solution.

I am having the sam problem. It hijacks my internet. I NEVER installed an xfinity app. Now your page is giving me problems with an annoying pop up when I try to type that blocks my view of what i am typing. All this is since the last update. I have a samsung note 5. I WANT MY INTERNET BACK!

If you are a comcast user and are annoyed by being on ur phone connection and boom comcast hot-spot on the road pop up asking ur webpage to log in do this. Go to Wi-Fi tap on cable Wi-Fi a box will show and bottom left hit forget. There won't be no more Wi-Fi auto connection unless u tap it again

You guys are a little over the top. Hijacking?
This is a feature that devices (e.g. phone or computer) should be providing.
Windows allows you to prioritize which network to connect to.
xfinitywifi is just a Wi-Fi network that is available.
I'm guessing Android is setup to connect to the strongest open or saved network. Android should provide ability to set priority of networks (i.e use home network instead of xfinitywifi if both are available). It is Google Android you should be complaining to.
Until then, there are Play Store apps that provide this feature. 1 was mentioned above, WiFi Rule or something. There are lots to choose from. Good luck and please let the forum know which works best for you!

It can be. It also can be set not to.

With the possibility of an infinite number of networks, "home/xfinity" can't work. "Home if available" can - and it's there, as are many apps to do the same thing. Smart Wifi Toggler is one of them.

This is the result of Xfinity... not Android or iOS devices. If you connect once to an Xfinitywifi hot spot, your device is automatically added to your Comcast Xfinity account. https://customer.xfinity.com/Secure/WiFiDevices to see your WiFi devices and remove them. Then it will nolonger auto connect. Cheers!

What if I want to connect to all Xfinity hotspots except for the one my home router provides? My phone constantly chooses the open Xfinity hotspot over my secure WiFi hotspot coming from the same router! I do most of my internet browsing from home and don't want to be doing it on an open network when my secure network is strong and available.

That's okay, you're actually quite lucky... xfinity hijacks my phone AT HOME!!! I can't even use my internet because my neighbor has xfinity... its quite irritating, xfinity literally makes my wifi lock up.

Welcome to Android Central! Unfortunately, in these kinds of situations, your best bet is probably to Forget your saved Xfinity network, and only connect when you actually need it. Then when you're done with that session, Forget the network again.
