Why does Sprint do this? I am very confused.

Ok. I have an EVo on an individual account right now. I purchased a Blackberry Tour from a friend of mine last week, and I want to activate it on the Sprint network.

I called them and they told me that a two-year agreement is required for me to begin service with that line... even though the phone is mine and they are not subsidizing anything. I also called a few stores, with the same response.

I called Verizon and ATT minutes later to check if they did that. Both said they would activate without contract since the phone is mine and they would not have to spend any money subsidizing the device.

Can anyone explain to me why in the world would I have to sign a two year agreement to activate a phone Sprint paid nothing for?

It's a bad policy of Sprint's. Not much more can be said imo.

FWIW, assuming that it's a Sprint branded Tour, Verizon won't/can't activate it at all.
