Why does the Apple Watch COST SO MUCH?

The pricing is odd... I mean, I am sure that the most popular model is going to be the 'low end' one.... and the sales numbers will drop off quickly as the prices shoot up. The $1000 Apple Watch is the same as the $350 one... just with some fancy new bands. And once you get up in that range, you start running into luxury timepiece territory. The Apple Watch looks like a hot mess when you compare it to real luxury watches.

Apple Watch Sport (Base model) is aluminum body with "Ion-X" glass. Apple Watch (Mid-tier model) is stainless steel and Sapphire glass. That's more than just different bands

Not that I care, I'm currently kicking around getting a Gear S for my Note 2 hopefully soon to be Note 4, but what the hell? The freaking Gear S tops would run me about 450 for verizon full retail, yet the Apple Watch is going for 700+? What in God's name does that thing do, provide you with your own personal AI that's not evil/homicidal?

There are several versions of the Apple Watch in different sizes and made of different materials. Prices vary depending on which size and model you get.

I think smart watches are completely unnecessary anyways imo but to each their own.

In a single word "GREED" apple things everything they make is perfect and demands you overpay for it. I have a MBP and its worth the money to me, but their watch is overpriced and frankly not something I want on my wrist.
