Why does the downloading notification disappear during a Google Play download?

For some time now, whenever I try to download something, it will start downloading as usual, then the downloading notification will disappear. In the Google Play Store, it will just say Downloading... and stay there. After a little bit it will come back, before disappearing shortly after. I have already tried clear the data and cache and force stopping both the Google Play Store and the download manager. But it didn't help.

Welcome to the forums. It's possible that notifications are switched off for the download manager. Try this, go to settings - apps - three dots - show system - scroll down until you find "Downloads" and/or "Download Manager" and make sure that notifications are switched on.
