I cannot offer advice or a comparison to iphone, however I can say that it's as fast as my previous Note 5. I don't see it being slow.. I wonder why you are experiencing that

I kinda felt my G4 prior had a slower shutter speed than it should have had. So far it's not as noticeable on the V10 for me.

An option is to hold the camera button down for multiple shots. Try turning off HDR. Simple Mode. Try some other camera apps perhaps as well, the Google one is free and simple.

I did hold the camera button on and the camera sounded like it was taking multiple shots-but only 1 picture showed up? Thanks motocrossfarm

I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THE V10-SUPER SHARP PICS, VIDEOS- THE SHUTTER SPEED IS IT'S HUGE DOWNFALL!!! FORGET ABOUT TAKING ACTION MOTOCROSS PICS - OR PICS OF YOUR KIDS IN ACTION- YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET THAT MOMENT YOU WANT !!! HOW COULD LG MISS THIS MOST IMPORTANT FEATURE ???

I WILL PROBABLY GET AN iPHONE BECAUSE OF THIS. OR THE SONY A6000 !

Can't beat the A6000, great little camera, love mine. ;)

Re: why does the lg v10 have such a slow shutter speed in auto mode?

I'm not sure what you guys are talking about because as soon as I hit the button the shutter flashes pretty much as fash as I can hit it with or without HDR on. I thought maybe I was missing something so I just tried and no real perceivable delay.

Re: why does the lg v10 have such a slow shutter speed in auto mode?

Try the iphone, even an iPhone 5 and tap the photo icon - it will DO Rapid Fire ACTION SHOTS SO FAST THAT YOU WONT MISS THE ACTION ! NO HESITATION- CANNOT TELL ITS EVEN RE-FOCUSING !!!

Re: why does the lg v10 have such a slow shutter speed in auto mode?

It's not the shutter. The camera, like all android cameras is slow to focus. The iPhone focusses and fires way, way, faster than any android phone I've ever used. And it pisses me off because I much prefer android. I have two small kids and trying to get a decent, non-blurry shot of them doing anything indoors except sitting completely still is damn near impossible with anything but an iPhone.

Re: why does the lg v10 have such a slow shutter speed in auto mode?

Thanks for your manual mode advice! However, manual mode is used primarily for portraits, night shots, special effects shots and videos of moving objects like waterfalls, city traffic or any scene where actions are not personal to you-photos where you have time to play with the settings.
Photos where you want and NEED to take pictures right away so you don't miss the PERSONAL moment or Fast action is when you need Auto mode- as you won't have time to adjust all the manual settings modes.

Mine doesn't delay at all. Check out the video on You Tube, search "50 tips for LG V10"... There is a setting for a delay, the videographer set his for there seconds after voice command "smile".

In My Opinion ...

The iPhone has more automatic settings - hence the ability to shoot fast action shots with little effort.

The V10 has more of a "Professional Camera" settings with less automatic shooting programs.

If you're used to a pro/semi-pro camera and setting it up for the perfect shot(s) ... you'll prefer the V10. If not, the iPhone will be the preferred camera.

Ironically - this conversation is about a phone LOLOL

Re: why does the lg v10 have such a slow shutter speed in auto mode?

Im not having any issues. Its set on automatic and it snaps the picture as soon as I hit the shutter. Great photos too

I've got my V 10 on auto and the pic snaps as soon as I hit the shutter button. Wish I could help you.

He's probably in low light so (like all cameras) the shutter speed slows to gather more light to properly expose the photo.

Yes, they do. But it's the exposure speed that determines the photo. That is, how much light is allowed into the exposure. Some photos require more light than others; each is different. So you adjust the speed (the length of time of exposure) using manual mode. I also use Camera FV-5 app when needed. I said aperture when I should have said exposure (or speed). For instance, an aperture of 1.1 will allow you to take a photo of a black cat in a completely black room.

Not necessarily, if you combine too fast a shutter speed with any aperature, you'll get nothing but a Black square. Everything you said above refers to shutter speed. Aperture (f/stop) is the opening of the lens diaphragm.
