Went to Staples today to play with the new N7. I haven't owned a tablet yet but want one to read pdfs and I do a test by downloading a pdf such as an msdn magazine. They actually had both the old (updated to 4.3) and new N7 and both exhibited a strange stuttering or jerkiness while scrolling. I made sure to terminate any running programs on both. I'm wondering if this is due to hardware or software. The new screen is really nice but it seems like it suffers from a really low refresh rate. They also had a Galaxy Note 8 and it didn't suffer the same jerkiness while scrolling even though that tablet felt slower overall. When I load the same pdf on a Galaxy S2, the screen doesn't exhibit that weird jerkiness either and it's got a far slower cpu/gpu. So it seems like amoled screens don't have this behaviour. Neither do any of the ipads. So I'm leaning towards some odd hardware issue with the N7's LCD. Great colors and viewing angles but did they cheap out on refresh rate or something? Is it possible I just came across two (2012 and 2013) faulty N7s or do all of them exhibit this behaviour? I had been waiting a long time for a 7-8 inch 1080p tablet but that stuttering/jerkiness really ruins the experience for me. It did this using both Adobe Reader and Polaris Office so I don't think it's the app either.
Edit: To hopefully better explain what I mean, it's not that the device is struggling to draw the pages, and I'm not flicking them rapidly, I'm just scrolling a page moderately or normally. On ipads and the Samsung devices with amoleds, I find the content moves like the text is a sheet of paper, gliding on air smoothly. On the N7's it just doesn't scroll smoothly, it's like the table underneath is sticky or rough and providing friction to the paper.
Edit: Then again it seems like this stuttering or jerkiness was only present while viewing pdfs, so maybe it has nothing to do with refresh or response rates. Can someone suggest any other pdf viewers that doesn't/might not exhibit this issue?
