Why does the show and hide button on the Navigation bar not work on Galaxy S8?

[Android Central Question]

I enabled the show and hide button which now appears in the navigation bar. However, regardless of whether or not the show hide button is activated, the bar hides itself anyway. I want it to never go away and to stay visible no matter what. How do I accomplish this?

Tried:
1. Toggling the button.
2. Resetting phone to factory settings.
3. Comparing settings line by line with my wife's S8 and finding no differences even though hers works

So, did you double-tap the show/hide button? If so, I'm stumped. Otherwise, they made a change that requires you to double-tap the button to prevent inadvertent activation/deactivation

Heh, I presume that was the one thing that hadn't been tried. Yeah, the toggle requires a double-tap⁠ ⁠— it drove me nuts as well
