Why does VLC play when trying to restart Stitcher from bluetooth control

I listen to stitcher often and pause it from my bluetooth headphone, but when I use the headphone to unpause the app, VLC plays instead, even after using the force stop option on it. I have no option on my galaxy s9 to set a default audio app.
