I have seen the tutorial on You Tube and done exactly what the guy does but when I say "text John Smith" or "call home", it comes up with all these options that it looks like it pulled from the internet of local places, then I see one option for "call home", I choose it, and it brings up the internet!

If I say "send text to John Smith", it pops up with a text menu but instead of putting "john smith" in the TO: section, it puts it in the body of the message!

Has anyone else had these issues? I am really at my wits end here!

It seems to work fine when I say things like "closest Italian restaurants" by bringing up the internet with a google search of local restaurants, but for dialing and texting commands, I cna't get this thing to work.

Is there another program I should consider getting from the Market instead?

would love your help with this, guys...thanks!

I think, but not sure, the voice search is for internet only, maybe some minor phone commands too. I don't know of an app because my last one was a bust.

this is crazy! There has to be an app as basic as Siri, where you can say, "text John Smith" and it does that! Here is the online tutorial that clearly shows you should be able to do this with Voice Search:

1) it does work
2) It's working for me just fine
3) instead of "send text to john smith" try just "text john smith message you want to send" replace john smith with someone actually in your contacts of course
4) Make sure when you say call XXX that you have them in your contacts also

Nope. Puts the whole darn thing that I speak in the "message".

I am discouraged :(

I think I can help...this happens to me when I'm not using Google sync contacts. Go to settings, accounts and synthen click Google and make sure your contacts are synced. If your contacts aren't synced then the name you want to text will show up in the actual message. Hope that helps...

Ok, I have not tried your suggestion yet, because I wanted to know, what if I don't want to sync my contacts through Google? I use My Phone Explorer to sync my Outlook calendar and contacts and it works like a dream! I think I tried Google sync when I first got a Droid and hated it, never went back. Suggestions?

Its a Google proprietary feature so I'm sure you have to be synced with Google for it to work I'm not sure but I'll test it out and let you know it never worked well for me either

INSPIRE AOKP ICE COLD SANDWICH ROM ;)

I am synced with Google and I can't get my voice search to open a text box or the phone dialer.

Also, Cat, at some point I would like to know more about My Phone Explorer.

Hi Cat ... Well, I went and checked out My Phone Explorer. I actually downloaded and it and then went back and looked at the permissions ... which for me were way out of hand. I uninstalled it.

It's too bad Microsoft is so uncooperative when it comes to syncing its own applications; hence the reason iEverything is popular. Apple at least makes sure its applications sync between its devices with no problem. Not Microsoft. No, instead all these other yahoos try to do Microsoft's syncing and it never works out. I have gone through hell and back with my calendars because I used Sync2 and it added some kind of code to my calendar events that the Ice Cream Sandwich Google calendar hates. I had to create a whole new Google account earlier this year when I got my ICS tablet just to get my calendar events to sync properly. And it wasn't my tablet's fault, because when the Rezound got the ICS update I had to activiate the newly created calendar on my phone as well.

Oh, and I almost ditched Android just to get Outlook to sync and thought about a Windows phone until I saw that not even the Windows phone had a sync to Outlook function. Really dumb!! I got things rolling fine now, no thanks to Microsoft!

You forgot to italicize lol :p I'm thinking someone hacked your account and is posting as you!

Ok ... user error on my part! I can now get Google Voice search to do everything but read my text messages.

Janet-

I hear your frustration with syncing Outlook as I experienced it for a long, long time. But let me assure you, My Phone Explorer saved the day. It is seamless, simple to use and works like a charm. I had a few bad Rezounds and everytime I got a new phone, switching over and syncing was a dream with this app. If i were you and still looking for a way to sync your Outlook calendar, I would seriously consider it. I tried using Google calendar and found it to be a flipping nightmare! I abandoned it quikcly. MPE has not steered me wrong so I am sticking with it. Try it out :)

As for Voice Search, I bit the bullet and set my phone to sync only contacts via Google and now it works fine for dialing and for texts, so thank you Lefank!!!!! Yippee!!!

I do wish there was an icon for voice search so that you didn't have to take the extra step to get voice working. I don't really mind the extra step, but a straight shot to the speaker while driving would be nice.

Have you tried holding down the Search button? Or you can root and install S voice on your phone or but the SGIII lol

Well, I spoke too soon and Voice Search is working like crap again for me :( I also installed two apps from the market that "claim" to work like Siri, and so far, they both stink (Assistant and Skyvi).

So, I am forced once again to harbor a secret jealousy for those with an iPhone, if only for Siri and the really cool cases they make for the #%^!)*&^ thing!!!!!!!
