Android Central Question

This is a bit weird. I've been trying to add custom alarm tones on my Note 8. I've done it before because I'm using some now but I can't remember how I did it. I've put some new custom alarm tones in every relevant folder I can find in both phone and SD card, including the root folders 'alarm' 'ringtone' and notifications'. I unplug from PC, reboot, go to select a new alarm in the alarm clock settings and they don't appear in the list to select from.
Here's the weird bit - I just noticed they HAVE appeared in the selection list but with different file names! They are still showing old filenames and not the current ones. For instance, where I took a file called 'songtitle.mp3' and edited it (on my pc in an audio editor) then resaved it as 'songtitlealarm.mp3' , when I transferred it to the phone it still shows (in file explorer) as the new title of 'songtitlealarm.mp3' but when I get the selection list it shows as 'songtitle'. What on earth is going on? Is it some kind of metadata issue?

will i lose any data or settings from clearing the cache?

Personal data isn't affected by a cache wipe.

It seems unlikely that the system would be showing an ID3 tag instead of the filename, but just to be sure, you could try editing the ID3 tag for the song name using Windows Media Player or Media Monkey on your computer.

Bingo! Edited the tag using media player, put it in the alarms folder on the phone and tried to change the alarm tone and .... there it is! It's in the selection list with the new tag!

I hope they get that fixed - its a real pita!

Thanks for your help.
