Why don't I have apps on my home screen?

If there's no home screen, your phone isn't running (black screen) or you're stuck in some sort of boot loop (manufacturer or carrier logo keeps repeating).

If the homescreen is there, but there just aren't any apps on it, open the app drawer and long-press any app you want on the homescreen, then drag it there.

Go to Settings > Applications > Manage applications. Select the app that is missing, and ensure that the app is not disabled.
