My email won't send unless I turn off wifi. So frustrated...

I have a Samsung Note 4 with Android 4.4.4. As of last night, my email stopped sending and receiving unless I turn off my wifi and use 4G. Obviously this isn't ideal because it will rack up my data limit which three of us are sharing. My fb app will also not update. I just get that spinning circle and cannot see any pictures(spinning circle).

I called Verizon. They went through my phone with me and told me to delete 3rd party apps because my ram was dangerously close to being filled. That's weird since I don't have a lot of apps i downloaded but I did delete. Then they had me do a setting reset. This didn't work. Before that we went into safe mode to see if email worked and it did. So they concluded it was my internet.

So I get on the phone with comcast(ugh). After speaking to 5 different people in 4 different departments, I was no better off. They refreshed my box. Then sent me to wireless. That guy told me that comcast doesn't have my airport router down but an old comcast one and sent me to someone else . I was to give them my serial number. She had no idea what I was talking about. My modem is only a modem. It is not the combo. I got disconnected. I called back..again. Finally they said it isn't the internet, it would be a problem with my router.

So I called apple. Luckily they gave me a free tech help since I have never called. They ran through all my setting and then had me delete it out and reinstall it. After that, my email worked on wifi as did my fb. So they said they would call at 9pm. I was happy .

I left and noticed when I got out in my driveway, I had no wifi signal. Normally I see bars. When I got back , my email was back to not doing anything unless I turn off wifi. The whole time I have been able to use my browser though on wifi with no problem.

Apple called back. We did a screen sharing and we went through the router and setting. They could not find anything wrong. It was communicating correctly. No other computers are having this issue in my house.

So what is the problem? I have googled this to death and have found nothing that would explain this. It worked fine the day before. I have no idea what to do. Everyone says everything works fine but obviously it doesn't. I can't have my phone using data like this. If I can't retrieve my email, that is a big problem.

Does anyone have any idea what the heck is wrong? I gotta believe it is some port or something that was checked or unchecked in my phone. That makes the most sense.

thank you in advance!!

Welcome to Android Central! That sounds painful.:-\ Review this guide and see if there are any tips there that you haven't tried: http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...roubleshooting-wi-fi-connection-problems.html

Unfortunately, it seems that certain routers can cause issues with certain devices. I don't know the technical reason, but it could be some kind of router firmware issue that leads to incompatibility with certain devices. I assume you've already updated the router's firmware to the current one, right?

See what happens if you turn off the router's security temporarily. Does your email work? If so, keep the security off for as long as you feel comfortable, and see if the email continues to work. Then turn the security back on--if the email stops working, then you've narrowed it down to some router security issue.

Another thing to consider is to buy another router (you can get decent ones for $30-40), and see if it works with the new router. If it doesn't, it's easy enough to return it.

Thank you for answering! I just don't think it's my router being incompatible just because I have had for awhile now and this has not happened until the other night. I guess it could have updated or something? No one else in my household is having an issue but me. Now it is true all other products are apple. Mine is the only non apple. But how does it all of a sudden become incompatible? I am not sure how to turn my security off?

I definitely don't want to buy another router. The airport extreme is a very good one and cost me a pretty penny. Even when comcast came out awhile back they told me that the Airport was a very good router.

Which AirPort do you have? Turning the security off involves logging into the router using your computer browser. You type in a URL address that corresponds with the router, then enter a username and password (the default is usually on a sticker on the back of the router, if you never changed it).

On your note 4 in the advanced wifi settings (tap and hold the wifi in the Notifications drop down) change the dchp to static and allocate a much higher number for the note 4 network address. Apply and try again. It may just keep the note on the network.

Try other wifi sources to find if it's a home network issue

Maybe it's the phone... Something may have just fine bad. Who is your service provider? Can you go to their closest store and have a tech try to get these things to work at there store? If so at least you know it's not your home system. You may just need to exchange phone... Hopefully it is under warranty or you have insurance.
