Why Google’s Android updates are overrated for Samsung phones now.

Main thing is Samsung has these features that later on get added to stock Andriod, which is true like mentioned in the article, for faster Andriod updates the pixel has that but features they behind, and not gimmick features its ones that get added eventually to stock Andriod.

I agree with that -- Google has certainly adopted interesting features from Samsung and other companies over the years and integrated them into "stock" Android.

Still stock Andriod clean and to the point, I like that also:))

I would argue that what we get out of Samsung is stock Samsung.

I fail to understand this mania for a bare bones OS. There's no such thing as "stock Android". There's the Android that Google puts forth in its Pixel phones, there's what Moto puts forth, what Samsung puts forth, and so on. Android is underneath, but everyone does his own thing with it.

Google's retail implementation is Google's retail implementation. But it's not "stock Android," as there is no such thing.

Proof that Verizon is vulnerable. And that changes nothing about what I said: Samsung could do this. Verizon et al. shouldn't be an issue at all.
Samsung could do anything but the difference is Samsung and other carriers were already imbedded with most carriers while the iPhone was an ATT exclusive.

Samsung is not likely to threaten to pull out of Verizon at this stage over updates and a few software changes because people in tech forums would like them to.

Well that is true there is no stock Andriod anymore as the pixel use their own skin on top of Andriod but since they are the least skin on Andriod phones and run how Google visions it I consider it stock Andriod and I'm sure many others will also.

Let's not forget Samsung are also incredibly greedy. They'll do whatever the carriers want as long as there's a few crumpled up Benjamins being thrown at them.

Apple are also greedy, but they're classier about it.

Samsung couldn't, I mean no offense when I say this but you don't know what you're talking about, you're just a consumer making assumptions.

I have no specific love for Samsung but name me one company that isn't in business to make as much money as they can. How are they any more greedy than anyone else?

Samsung CAN do anything they want.

I think what you mean is, Samsung WOULDN'T.

Now: care to explain before you run off?
In a literal sense Samsung could do anything they want, however business decisions are usually made with some sort of profit motivated basis. Therefore a wouldn't often becomes a couldn't.

Because they are shills.

Look at all the crap that comes on a Samsung phone. What do you think Apple would say if Epic games asked to pre-install Fortnite on their iPhones?

And it's not just Apple. You don't get that crap on pixels, OnePlus phones or motos.

And it's not just Fortnite. Facebook, LinkedIn ads for McAfee... All on a phone you paid through the nose for.

I think fornite Samsung try made exclusive in beginning to possible draw in more sales? people wanted it.

I didn't, did you? My brother actually plays Fortnite and he uninstalled it.

That's the thing, this isn't about Samsung thinking they can make a better app than Google or giving users something useful. It's just about money.

And I'm not just picking on Samsung, I feel the same way about LG trying to push ads through my TV.

No, don't usually play games anymore.

This is really about how Andriod updates are overrated on Samsung phones especially flagship. I'm sure you know me by now in the forums and phones I use from different manufacturers, I can bash any of them for certain things but I don't I even use iPhone. It's about Samsung has these features already that would be implemented in future Andriod updates.

Dude, no "crap" came on my S10+. It's a T-Mobile-specific unit that I bought directly from Samsung. It has the T-Mobile specific bands active, and it came with exactly three pieces of T-Mobile software on it: the T-Mobile account app (I have account apps for my financial institutions, my credit card companies, my insurance company, my electric company...so having one for my cell carrier is just plain normal), the Name ID app, and Visual Voicemail app.

It did have Facebook on it, but guess what--it's removable. So I uninstalled it. I've never been on Facebook, so it being there has no impact on me, but anyway.

And that's IT.

So what "crap" are you talking about?

Tmobile doesn't come with much bloat, couple of their own and that's it, Att is the worse.

I agree when it comes to features -- but I'd be more concerned about important security patches. Granted, many security patches are minor, but every now and then there's a more consequential one, so I'd hope those get pushed out by Samsung in an expedited manner.

I too would like to know that security patches would get the green light - or the advanced green! - when it came to update efficiency and speed. Features like camera improvements are awesome, but I always feel a little better knowing I have the latest security patch. :)

I have an ancient Sprint Galaxy 6S with some Samsung software that I wish was not on it. I have tried removing it but it destabilizes the OS. I will never use it. I would think the "canonical" Android release would be avoiding this stuff. Doesn't it?
