Android Central Question

Samsung S7 model SM-G930F

There is a black bar covering approximately 1cm at the bottom of my screen, it is covering some of the keyboard and selections to the bottom of the screen.
I can still select items so the touch screen is working.
I have done a factory reset but still there.

Help!!

Hi all.

I am having the same screen issue.
All of sudden, 10 days ago, without any drop or accident, a black bar appeared at the bottom of my screen.
I also noticed a sort of gray gradient from bottom to top with some flickering. It was impossible to see anything under sun light.

I did a list of things :

1. Rebooted into safe mode. Bar still there.
2. Took a screenshot. Picture was as expected without the black bar.
3. Deselected "Automatic brightness" option. No success.
4. Accessed Administrator Tools. Deactivated hardware layers and other GPU related options. Nothing.

Then some hope :

5. Rebooted into Recovery Mode. Wiped out cache. Gray gradient was gone.

As soon as I rebooted to normal mode, I noticed that black bar was not so dark. I adjusted the brightness level to max and min. Voila. Success. Black bar was misteriously gone.

I left cell at the table and, maybe 20 min later, black bar was back again. Repeated same steps as before without success.
At least the gray gradient is gone but I can not do much with this annoying black bar.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Welcome to Android Central! Do you have the same phone as the OP of this thread? Just as with the previous discussion, it really sounds like a hardware issue with the screen.

Thanks for your response.

Yes, it is exactly the same model.

I am also afraid that it could be a hardware failure. Well, I am trying to run out all possibilities before looking for a repair shop.

The only other thing I could suggest would be to open the phone up and check the connections, but that could end up causing more damage than it fixes.

I'm having the same problem after installing an app called Opcity for work. Not sure if it's related but it is irritating since the bar covers the spacebar and many other navigation buttons. Sounds like planned obsolescence...

Welcome to Android Central! It's a 4 year old phone. Phones aren't really built to last that long these days, so rather than planned obsolescence, I'd suspect just plain wear and tear on aging hardware. As I suggested above, you could always try opening the phone up and checking connections.
