Why Has Default Notification Sound Stopped? How to Fix?

not happy with the recent update released August 16, 2018. i use my phone storage default sounds for notification sound alerts and i download from ZEDGE. this has worked for me for months but yesterday it stopped working after the update. i select my default but when i get a notification it only does the standard messenger sound which i do not like. the default ringtone i also got from ZEDGE works when i receive messenger calls but the default for notifications does not work. find the bug and fix it please.
