Why has Google stopped working on my Samsung Galaxy S5?

The wheel just goes round in circles and yields no results. However, Chrome works perfectly. This all started just a couple of days ago.

THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN SOLVED AS OF 10/5/14, SOMEHOW. I had more than one Google icon among various pages. I removed the one on my Home Page and moved the one that was in my apps. pages. It now works perfectly. And BTW, I had already gone through apps. and cleared caches, so maybe that helped. Go figure...

Is it only google specifically? i.e are all other internet sites working?
- did you by any chance install an app around the time it stopped working.
Also try wiping the cache partition:
1. Power off your smartphone
2. Press and hold "Volume up", "Home" and "Power" at the same time
3. After the phone vibrates, release the "Power" button but continue to hold "Volume Up" and "home"
4. Once the "Android System Recovery" screen appears, release all the hardware buttons
5. Using the "Volume Down" button, navigate to and highlight "wipe cache partition"
6. Press "Power" to select the option
7. Once the cache partition has been wiped, "Reboot System Now" should be highlighted
8. Press the "Power" key to reboot your device

No other apps. are affected. As I stated above. Google on my Mac laptop gives results instantaneously. Chrome on my phone works perfectly. Not sure how to execute your fix - I made an attempt but nothing happened.

For some reason, the Google Services app and the Play Store apps quit working when their cache gets full.

goto to Settings/apps/app mgr/Play Store and clear the cache

do the same for the other Google apps if that don't fix your problem.

Thanks to all for your replies. Please see my original message above. I seemed to have solved the problem. Not quite sure what specifically worked that I did, but it did.

I have the same problem right now, No new downloads or updates, but all of a sudden no results are showing when i google anything. Will this step erase all my data? I've already power cycled the phone and cleared the cashe from all google apps
