why has MMS notifications stopped when mobile data is not turned on

Well, I didn't even know that option was there! So far it hasn't helped but I will edit this if it does work. Good info!! Well that didn't help either. Good idea though.

Are there any updates on this? I'm running into the same issue. Unless I look at my phone when the MMS message comes in and my data is off, I won't receive any type of notification. When looking at my phone with MMS off, I'll get a "please turn on mobile data to download"; however, I do not get a typical notification in the notification bar.

Welcome to Android Central! Since you've read through this thread, I assume you already know that MMS requires mobile data to be on. Is there a reason you keep it off? Do you have a limited plan and are trying to conserve data?

I saw in your other post that you have a Galaxy A53. Are you using the Samsung Messages app, Google Messages app, or some other messaging app? Go to the system settings and make sure whichever messaging app you use isn't Battery Optimized -- change that setting to Unrestricted.

I understand it requires mobile data to be on. I'm wondering why it doesn't alert me in the similar fashion as a text message as it did in the past.

I'm using Samsung Messages and the battery optimization is set to unrestricted.

When this happens, are you in the Messages app already with that thread open? Or does this also happen when you're doing something else, or when the phone is idle? Most messaging apps will not give you a notification if you already have the app open to that thread.
