Why has my emoji keyboard changed??

[Android Central Question]

I've got a new pixel 3 and it was identical to my old pixel 2 when suddenly my emoji keyboard changed. Instead of swiping horizontally through the different pages of emojis, I now have to scroll vertically. Also, the emojis are a lot bigger on the keyboard than they used to be. Is there any way to change this back or are my emojis stuck like this?

Same keyboard? If so check the setting on your keyboard on my Gboard it's horizontal.

Thank you but I've checked on my Gboard settings and there's no option to change the emoji's orientation?

Mine did the same thing with GBoard but it was momentary, like less than 10 minutes and it was back to the horizontal scrolling. I liked the vertical scroll personally, the emojis were larger and scrolling was faster it seemed

So you didn't do anything to change it back, it just did it? Mine's been like it for 2 days now!

No, not intentionally or that I know of. It just went back to horizontal scrolling. Weird.
