Why I am getting rid of the Note 10+

The android auto issues appear to be very widespread, hopefully they can come out with a fix soon for them.

Pretty dam happy with this phone that is $600 cheaper. I would call that saving money not wasting money.

The Pixel 3a is a damn good phone so I don’t blame you for going back if you weren’t happy with your Note.

Did you check if your Ford Sync is up to date on latest version? I have an older 2011 Explorer so it doesn't support Apple or Android Auto but I just remembered my early version of Sync being so buggy and had downloaded to jump drive and update it a few times over the years. Check the Sync site if you still have the Note.

There will always be growing pains with a new phones that usually gets smoothed out after a number of updates.
The note 9 didnt have issues, the pixel 3a didnt have issues when i used once before. The essential phone didnt have issues. Ford with sync3.

I just use Android Auto / Carplay with my Ford Sync. I believe I have Sync 3 but not too sure TBH.

Not sure of the version. I don't have the phone anymore so I can't trouble shoot anything. I do know that I plugged my pixel in and it worked just fine.

Just from your post I see in less than 1 full year you have had a Note 9, Iphone, Note 10+, now a Pixel 3a.
And you plan to get the Pixel 4 in a few months.

Going through phones like toilet paper is wasting money IMO. Even if you resell them you are taking a loss.

You can only judge a waste of money based on your resources. If someone wants to buy a new phone every few months and they can still put food on the table and their kids through college while not financially crippling themselves that is their choice. By spending money they help the economy.

Who cares? You aren't the one who earned the money and its not your place to dictate how one spends their hard earned money. Some people spend hundreds of dollars a month on golf. Some on cars. Some on fishing. You get the point. Others are interested in mobile technology as a hobby. What is considered a waste of money to you is not considered so by others.
