Why I am leaving Android for WP8

Just because they are making nice phones does not mean they are doing well. LG just this summer finally posted a profitable quarter after 3 consecutive losses. HTC has plummeted from 11% market share down to around 3%. Samsung as of 2013 had 95% of all Android profits. Yet Samsung continues to press forward with developing their own mobile OS, Tizen. When your dominant OEM is developing other options, that's not a good sign.

Sorry... HTC is in the black with the m8 now, LG is making money as well so both are being profitable and as far as Samsung developing Tizen has nothing to do with this. They haven't abandoned Android nor have they made any commitments to do so. What they have done is to expand their options by adopting other software options for their handsets and wearables and now with Microsoft and Nokia for Office suites and Here Maps. If this positions them to eventually bring Tizen out as a alternative os for mainstream devices so much the better for them and us as an alternative, but I don't think that it will amount to anything ground changing since the majority of development of the apps are still in Android and controlled by Googles app store.

Anyway that is all speculation on my part about that.

I will say that I firmly believe that in the near future we will be able to have most all of the available software Samsung is getting on most any Android phone, since that is what usually happens, that and given Microsofts push to supplying their own software for Android and ios, so jumping ship back to WP isn't something I would consider. I wouldn't mind having a dual boot option though just to evaluate the grass on both sides of the fence. Choice is always a good thing.

They have already brought Tizen out on their watches. Maybe watches aren't considered mainstream yet, but they plan for them to be.

One or two quarters of profitability does not mean the companies are doing fine and everything is great. HTC has a long way to go to be even be considered stable. LG has made a recent push but with Samsung dominating the market they also have a huge hill to climb. Sony is another one that is failing.

I will agree that choice is good. I'd really hate to see Apple's proprietary ecosystem or Google's privacy invading one be the only two choices.

We'll see what Windows 10 will do now. I haven't been impressed with what I saw yesterday. Start Menu and Taskbar on a tablet = fail. I'm curious to see what the phone version is.

Google is privacy invading? Do they put cameras into your home and watch you while you sleep or something?

I wonder if these anti Google yet pro MS supporters who think Google are anti privacy have any clue what kinds of clubs the founder of MS and his cronies belong to...

If their practices don't bother you, fine, that's your opinion. But don't try to pretend they don't create privacy issues. Granted, every ecosystem today does to some extent, but Google is by far the worst. That's an issue for another thread, so I won't comment further on it here.

Wp 8.1 is smooth but slow... I challenge you to open 10 tabs on the browser ( this is how i use my phone in real life) then open instagram, blackberry messenger, line, whatsapp, and back to the browser and see what happen.. I'm a wp 8.1 user too (a nokia) but not anymore since few weeks ago. A similar priced android (even cheaper one - on $300 or below price range) can do faster and better multitasking -- Xiaomi - Fujitsu - Motorola ($150 moto g).

I'm not dislike wp i'll be back someday and just hoping they fixed it.

They don't create privacy issues, and what is so hypocritical about you and others is that Microsoft, and Apple do the EXACT SAME THING. They may not make money on ads like Google but Microsoft and Apple collect a ton of data themselves, read this thread:

All corporations dealing with smartphone technology create privacy issues, it is a matter of cost benefits. What company has a good enough product that I am willing to let them into my personal life?

Im a WP8 user from the start that just this week got an Android to go with it.
I think you will be happy with WP, its also a great OS.

WP is an awesome OS. I would definitely say give it a chance. I wouldn't go for anything with less than a Gig of ram in memory tho

Concerning privacy issues WP8 fans are commonly accusing Google of having: I really don't think the majority of those people are knowledgeable about the activities of the tech giants. Or their own company of preference, Microsoft.

It's my understanding of the most recent news about this subject that Google, MS, and Apple have not only clearly and plainly denied providing the NSA free access to user data, but have also stated they do so ONLY when requests are made LEGALLY under a legally obtained subpoena.

Furthermore, both Google and Apple in reaction to suspicions that the government has been trying to illegally intercept customer data without their permission have announced that they will be encrypting everything. To the protest of the FBI.
I believe them. Tim Cook and Eric Schmidt have no reason to behave like government employees. They both have a better job than the president of the United States himself.
