I tried formatting it through settings storage format and I tried it in recovery but nothing happens the SD card got damaged some how in my epic4g sph d700. Is there a fix on how to make the card work again or should I just throw it away ?

Have you tried inserting it into a PC and formatting it there?

Yea I tried and nothing happens and the computer seems to lag like you see the loading icon. I right click on it then click format then it says do you want to format I click yes, then it says disk is write protected. What does that mean

Are you sure the write-protect tab on your SD card adapter is switched to "off"? In other words, look at the full sized SD card adapter that you have to put your microSD card in before inserting the whole thing into your PC. There should be a switch on that adapter that says either "Lock" or "Write-protect." Make sure it's off.

Thanks I thought that was for so the sd card doesn't fall out lol I'll see if that works

I know this post is old but i had this just happen to me.

Rebooted into recovery and "format sdcard" did not work.
my pc linux or windows would not mount card so could not format there either.

so while phone was connected to win 7 machine:
i went into recovery (cwm) and went to
mounts and storage
mount USB storage

this allowed windows 7 to mount card(i assume linux too)
and from windows i could format again to fat32.

hope this helps some people out there.

actually i do have the same problem with him, ive tried to format it using my pc but it cant be formatted. Then a pop-up message appears saying that the files might be read only file.
