Why I'm skipping on the SPRINT NOTE 3 and why you should too.

Ok, I'm new to T-Mobile and I have to learn all there is to know about T-Mo in 2013. Just recently came from Sprint here in Charlotte. Tired of non-existant 4G in my apartment. Now i'm rocking on T-Mobile. Does anyone know if I use an outside tethering app, will I be able to use more than the 2.5 GB without being throttled?

Have to be rooted and using a modified apk to avoid tethered data tracking.

Really? What magical sprint note 3 is this?

I upgraded from the Note 2 simply because I had 6 Note 2s within a 60 day time frame.... Now although I like the Note 3, the bloatware is truly excessive. I cannot stand Sprint ID!!! This crap sucked in the past and sucks even more now. I've been with Sprint since 2000, but I think it's time to leave Sprint and Samsung. I've owned the Samsung Epic, S2, Galaxy Nexus, S3, S4, Galaxy Tab 1 and 2, Note 2 and now the Note 3. The bloatware almost made me send the Note 3 back. When I saw Sprint ID on the device, I was literally ticked off!!! The phone has 3GB of ram, but the crap that is constantly running in the background just don't make sense. Who in the heck told them I wanted Magazine? I disabled the crap on the Note 2, but couldn't on the Note 3. Samsung took a step back in many ways with the 3 because the 2 gets better battery life. I need a refreshed Touchwiz with less bloat or at least give me the option to decide which bloat I desire to use....

All of them.

Bloat from carriers will always be there on a carrier branded device. Samsung themselves do have alot of bloat but you can root to get rid of if you truly hate it.

Also I'd love to see your Note 2 screenshots to show its "better battery life". I get amazing life on the Note 3 so I'd like to compare.

Sprint is getting there

I understand if you're in a LTE area and you want to argue that you don't need a triband phone. If you fall into that category this isn't for you.

I have been researching this phone for the past year and was hoping for the best. Even when there were rumors about the phone missing triband capabilities, I figured we still had a chance that Sprint was going to do the right thing and that was the reason for the delayed announcement.

Well today is the day Im done with Sprint. If they weren't releasing triband phones then fine, I can accept it, but when midrange devices like the Galaxy Mega and S4 Mini are coming out with it, this is a slap in the face to the consumer. It's another slap when you consider the extra $50 charge. I WOULD HAVE GLADLY paid the extra $50 since it's a 32GB phone if it had triband, but this is a joke.

Some people will argue that triband isnt necessary right now but I beg to differ. I get LTE and you know what? It stops the minute I get in my garage. This is because the single band is terrible at building penetration. A triband phone would eventually alleviate that problem, even if it took Sprint a year to finish upgrading their network.

So in essence, we know Sprint has the technology (S4 mini, Mega, and G2) but they didn't bother incorporating it into their now most expensive device?

A rep will argue that $50 more up front is okay because we pay less than we would with other providers. This is true but if the data is useless then what's the point? Paying an extra $50 to eat crud is still eating crud.

Huge sales of this phone will just reinforce to Sprint that they can sell a crippled device on a crippled network for more $ than anyone else and still make money.

While I can appreciate your desire to spread the word, I think you're missing a couple of points:

1) Some people (myself included) get LTE just fine indoors, so this isn't that big a deal.

2) Sprint doesn't make these phones. Samsung does. We don't know how much say Sprint had over the actual internals of the device, so it's not really fair to blame Sprint for this, unless you have evidence that this was actually Sprint's decision.

3) education is never a bad thing, and it's great that you're trying to get the word out, but prefacing that information with "why you should do X" is not the way. Educate people, tell them why you think it's a problem, and what you would suggest to fix it, but you can't tell them what to do. It makes the whole thing sound like a rant, and you instantly lose credibility in your argument.

I'm not sure what phone you are talking about that Sprint is selling for $349, the Galaxy Note 3 (GN3) is $249, and I am unaware of a more expensive phone than the Note 3 TMo, and others limit data, some throttle it down to 3G, or simply don't have the coverage. Tmo.'s "4G" isn't quite 4G, at least on this island! In fact, they only had 2G, until recently... while others just charge you more. So, really; comparing apples to apples... activation fees are same with all carriers, so let's leave that off:

ATT Prices:
$299 for the GN3
$120/mo. * 12 = $1,440 monthly plan Unlimited talk & text and 10Gb data (I use anywhere from 8-12/mo with Sprint)
$30/mo * 12 = $360 4G service (mandatory) (Total 2yr contract cost: $3899)

Verizon
$299.99 GN3
$40 monthly line access $480/yr unlimited talk/text
$100 monthly 10Gb data $1200/yr (total 2yr contract cost: $3659.99)

Sprint Prices:
$249 GN3
$80/mo * 12 = $960 unlimited talk/text/data (2 year contract Total cost = $2169)

Tmobile:
GN3 $199 + $10 Sim Starter Kit (required)
$70/mo * 12 mo = $840/yr (Total 2yr contract cost: $1889)

If you exceed 10Gb you'll be paying more with ATT and VZN, Tmo. they just don't have the 4G speeds they claim, at least not here!
Bang for buck, I'll stick with Sprint, for $280 more than Tmo. Since Sprint's coverage here in Puerto Rico is good, and we've had 4G island wide, since Oct. 2012, before they had 4G in my home state of NH! BTW; I too am skipping the GN3, but only because I don't see enough of a change from GN2 to warrant the cost. I'll keep my eyes open next year, for the GN4!

as far as tri-band (4G), It's just not a concern here.

I think that I too, at least for now, will be skipping the Note 3 on Sprint. That $349.99 quickly becomes $420 when sales tax and activation fee is included. All for a 3G (in my area for the foreseeable future) phone and with a commitment for two years, And to add insult to injury the same phone is $199.99 plus tax at TM. You show me the LTE Sprint and we'll talk.
I don't know where you're getting your pricing, the Note 3 is a hundred less, $249, on Sprint...

Not to mention a decent amount of work places or something else (even AAA) give discounts on carrier plans. I know I retain a 25% discount with Sprint. It keeps my cost pretty low with an older unlimited data/text and 450 minute plan. Cheaper than the new unlimited everything plans that are also $80. The discount is applied to the $30 data cost and not the $70 plan cost like it was on my older plan. I recently compared retaining my current setup compared to a new One Up plan with their $15 discount plus the new Unlimited $80 plan. The new was more expensive by quite a bit even after I factored in a $150 early upgrade fee. It was cheaper over 12 months and 24 months.

Okay, with Tmo. you have a choice of paying the downpayment, and a 2yr contract, OR paying the $21/mo for 24 months, but not both, right? The way I figured it, the 2yr contract would cost $1,880, or do they make you pay the downpayment AND the $21/mo for 24mo? That would SUCK!
