Why I'm skipping on the SPRINT NOTE 3 and why you should too.

Sprint is pretty bad in Miami, I'm out of sprint shortly, just gonna wait on a special with ATT or Verizon.

I keep trying Sprint and I keep giving up on them. Their network performance, for me, isn't even in the same class as AT&T and Verizon. I'd rather pay more and get a network I can rely on.

Note 8.0

I think that I too, at least for now, will be skipping the Note 3 on Sprint. That $349.99 quickly becomes $420 when sales tax and activation fee is included. All for a 3G (in my area for the foreseeable future) phone and with a commitment for two years, And to add insult to injury the same phone is $199.99 plus tax at TM. You show me the LTE Sprint and we'll talk.

You mean $703.99. The $199.99 is just a downpayment.

I understand if you're in a LTE area and you want to argue that you don't need a triband phone. If you fall into that category this isn't for you.

I have been researching this phone for the past year and was hoping for the best. Even when there were rumors about the phone missing triband capabilities, I figured we still had a chance that Sprint was going to do the right thing and that was the reason for the delayed announcement.

Well today is the day Im done with Sprint. If they weren't releasing triband phones then fine, I can accept it, but when midrange devices like the Galaxy Mega and S4 Mini are coming out with it, this is a slap in the face to the consumer. It's another slap when you consider the extra $50 charge. I WOULD HAVE GLADLY paid the extra $50 since it's a 32GB phone if it had triband, but this is a joke.

Some people will argue that triband isnt necessary right now but I beg to differ. I get LTE and you know what? It stops the minute I get in my garage. This is because the single band is terrible at building penetration. A triband phone would eventually alleviate that problem, even if it took Sprint a year to finish upgrading their network.

So in essence, we know Sprint has the technology (S4 mini, Mega, and G2) but they didn't bother incorporating it into their now most expensive device?

A rep will argue that $50 more up front is okay because we pay less than we would with other providers. This is true but if the data is useless then what's the point? Paying an extra $50 to eat crud is still eating crud.

Huge sales of this phone will just reinforce to Sprint that they can sell a crippled device on a crippled network for more $ than anyone else and still make money.

I totally agree ! I'm defintely dropping Sprint as soon as the Note3 drops !
I'm going to unleash the beast on Atnt's network ! :D

Verizon wants too much money and cut out a lot of useful apps.
They also lock their devices up. That's communist and reminds me of Cr-apple ! Lol

Just to be clear, all the other carriers have tri-band LTE? Or is it the Note 3 in general?

Only Sprint has tri band technology right now and devices are just starting to come out, built for it.... Sad to hear the note 3 isn't though but I can't wait till Sprint leaves all these other overpriced carries in the dust by 2014's end ;-)

Iphone is not one of them. Nor the retarded 5s/c.

LG G2 is tri-band. Galaxy Mega is another. Sprint is re-releasing the s4 and mini into tri-band. Seriously makes you wonder why not the note 3?

True, but even the 5s/5c is dual band and it uses the second band that matters indoors. I would have been fine with the Note 3 on Sprint if it was dual band and had 800 Mhz LTE.

Same here. I have been trying Sprint off and on fir the past four years and every time it's the same thing. I'm not going to try any more.

i've been with Sprint since 2008 and have a big discount but i'm leaving them as soon as the Nexus 5 drops and switching to AT&T GoPhone no contract plan. Unlimited Talk/Text and 2GB LTE Data for $60/Month. you can buy another 1GB of data each month as needed for $10. i like this plan, i like this price (it's less than Sprint even after discounts), and i'm confident that AT&T has good nationwide coverage. i like the freedom a GSM carrier offers with plug and play SIM cards and ability to BYOD - and a pure Android Nexus direct from Google. also i'm tired of the chains of contracts.

But it is in the class of T-Mobile? Nooooooooooooooo

Oh, I didn't realize that. So TM really isn't much different than the Sprint plan where I pay $80 for Unlimited, as some of that is also attributable to phone subsidy. (I guess). I have been paying closer attention to phone prices, and as these things go I guess $349 isn't really out of line for a top line phone. It's just that darn lack of LTE.

You may come out ahead with Sprint's pricing, though I agree that the lack of LTE in more places is not good.

It sounds like your two-year cost would be:

Phone cost = $349
Monthly costs = ($80 x 24) = $1,920
Total cost = $2,269

A T-Mobile customer would pay:

Phone downpayment = $199.99
Monthly unlimited plan cost = ($70 x 24) = $1,680
Monthly device cost = ($21 x 24) = $504
Total Cost = $2,383.99

You come out slightly better over two years here. Just to make sure I'm comparing apples to apples, does your plan include unlimited minutes for all voice calls or just mobile-to-mobile calls?

How many bands is the Note II? Is it the same or am I losing one band with the 3?

AT&T locked the bootloader on the note 3 as well. All of their new phones are supposed to be locked up now.
I would really like to switch to AT&T but I like to root my phone. I can get a cheaper plan based on my usage.
Sprint is really close here and TMO is horrible. I also keep reading that the sprint version doesn't have triband LTE.

I guess I have a totally different approach to this. It's the same approach I had when people were crying about the falling skies due to companies ditching unlimited data. I know my opinion is just an opinion and my lifestyle may be vastly different than most of the complainers BUT here goes:

I'm in a wi-fi zone 90 percent of the time with work/home/church. I'm never the passenger always the driver so I won't be using my phone as I drive except for GPS from time to time and to top it off. LTE is a ghost in Green Bay. Couple all of that with the fact that I upgrade my phone at least once, sometimes twice a year. for ME I don't see what all the fuss is about and I'm sure there are others that agree.

Not to mention a decent amount of work places or something else (even AAA) give discounts on carrier plans. I know I retain a 25% discount with Sprint. It keeps my cost pretty low with an older unlimited data/text and 450 minute plan. Cheaper than the new unlimited everything plans that are also $80. The discount is applied to the $30 data cost and not the $70 plan cost like it was on my older plan. I recently compared retaining my current setup compared to a new One Up plan with their $15 discount plus the new Unlimited $80 plan. The new was more expensive by quite a bit even after I factored in a $150 early upgrade fee. It was cheaper over 12 months and 24 months.

to further clarify your point on the discounts with new Sprint plans - with the new Sprint Plans - from Sprint's site -

I have a discount through my employer. Does my employer discount work with the new plans?

Discounts apply to the monthly data charge rather than the primary rate plan for lines on the Unlimited, My Way plan. The My All-in plan is non-discountable.

-----

Example -

Old Plan = $70.99/Month x 22% Discount = $62.39/Month + Taxes and Fees

New Plan = $80/Month x 22% Discount on $30 Data Piece Only = $73.40/Month + Taxes and Fees

Difference = $11.01/Month + Taxes and Fees

of course the "New Plan" includes Unlimited Landline Talk and "Old Plan" does not.
