Why is display on Nexus 6 bought from Google dimmer than the one I bought from AT&T?

I bought a Nexus 6 for my wife. I bought it directly from Google (unlocked). I have one that I bought from AT&T. The display on my phone is brighter than the one on her phone even though all settings are identical. I did add a screen protector to hers (I have one on mine as well), but I was wondering if the one from Google may have already had one and since I installed one myself maybe that makes the screen appear dimmer? If that isn't the case, then what could be causing the noticeable difference in display brightness? I have checked all settings including adaptive brightness. I can't find any differences in the settings, but for some reason the display on the phone from Google is noticeably dimmer than the one from AT&T. It isn't so bad that it isn't usable, it just isn't nearly as bright.

Did you check the adaptive brightness? One could be unchecked and causing it to look lighter than the other.

First, let me thank you for the fast reply. I truly appreciate it. I did check adaptive brightness and it is "off" on both phones.

Do both phones have the same kind of screen protector? Could the protector on the Google phone be covering the ambient light sensor?

Do both displays look the same at very low brightness levels? Does one look more reddish than the other? The ATT phone may just have a better display--one of those luck of the draw things.

I would say the difference could be the result of the screen protectors, or depending on the age of your Nexus 6, the wear of your screen to cause the slight variation. Is it something noticeably different where use of the device is being affected?
