Why is Google Keyboard word prediction "clueless" when a numeral is accidentally typed in?

I use the Google Keyboard app with my Pixel 4 XL. When I accidentally type in a numeral, the word prediction feature is completely "clueless." I used to use Swiftkey, and don't remember that being the case. Not huge issue, but I guess I'm surprised that "Google" isn't smarter than that.

Sounds like their prediction engine slipped a gear somewhere. I've used SwiftKey almost exclusively for the last 8 years. I'm actually kind of stunned at the things it remembers, especially since I have it synced to three devices. I simply love how feature rich it has become lately, too.

You can always use SwiftKey on your Pixel. You'll just need to install it from Play Store.

I'm guessing it's just a design decision. If a person types a numeral in the middle of a string of characters, the developers might be thinking that the user's intention is to enter a code, or some other specific string of characters, in which case text prediction might actually cause headaches for the user.

Thanks, BergerKIng. Perhaps it is time to go back to SwiftKey.

Thanks, B.Diddy. Tiem to go back to SwiftKey.

I’ve used Swiftkey plenty but just find it easier to stick with Google ...I don’t find myself typing numbers often enough to bother changing ...

I've been trying SwiftKey today. Haven't used it for quite a while. A new learning curve. We'll see how it goes.

It will get better with predictions the more it learns your habits...customization for how you want keyboard and themes...it’s pretty good ...
