Why is Google Play Music using so much data?

I never really paid attention to how much data Google Play Music was using before the last update. However, I did the update and even subscribed to the All Access stuff which I like a lot so far, and now it uses 400 MB of data? Why is that? Does it cache all the songs I stream and keeps them on the phone?

Had a look into this earlier in the week in another thread. Basically:

Spotify:
Low quality -- 96 kbps
High quality -- 160 kbps
Extreme quality -- 320 kbps

Google:
Automatically stream as high as possible based on Internet speed, up to 320 kbps.

If you have a good data connection, Google Music will use twice as much bandwidth as Spotify, unless you've set Spotify to the Extreme setting.

And it sounds awesome...

So... Sprint with unusable unlimited music streaming... or Verizon, tied to WiFi? First world problems.

And the 15 of us that have good T-Mobile service. But, pretty much this.

I don't know where you live, but lucky me is not in an area of "Sprint unlimited unusable data" as can be seen by one if the Screenshots I included.

I also included a shot of the 400 MB data that Google music now occupies. I haven't streamed any music since I saw for the first time how much data it uses, so I don't know if that stays the same or not.

Should I feel guilty for using 10 gb in 2 weeks?

I could never be on another carrier with this type of usage, dear Sprint, keep improving and keep it unlimited please!

Ok so as I listened to more music, the data count for the app in application manager went up even further, up to 456 MB from listening to about 20 mins worth of music. Inside the app, caching was enabled, so I just disabled that and cleared the data to get some more storage room back on my phone. Curious to see how it performs without the caching.
