Why is it so difficult to set up a new Android device.

Throughout the years I believe the initial setting up of new Android devices have gotten a lot easier and quicker. Even getting rid of bloatware has gotten better considering at one point we couldn't disable or get rid of any of it.It's the tweaking and customizing afterwards that takes so long.

I change too much going from phone to phone so a fresh start is welcomed. There's always a chance that a majority of my apps or settings wouldn't be used on the new device.

I do get what you're saying and I understand how not having that ability might be a hassle for people who don't tweak or customize.

With all the space available bloatware isn't very problematic. People who enjoy the simplicity of the iPhone should stick with it. It is at the heart of its OS an app launcher. With a sea of launch icons strewn across pages. I traded the Max in for my Note 10+ and am very happy with it. Except for the blasted fingerprint sensor.

I can verify that according to my Google-fu and Package Disabler Pro, that Verizon blocks Samsung Cloud because they have their own cloud service they're pushing. When I look in PDP I see the app and can favorite it or add to widget but when I do this I still don't see the app or widget. Verizon sucks!

Also there is a new app within the Good Lock app called Home Up. It allows you to customise your home screen and then you can back it up. You can restore from it if you ever need to. You can customise folders as well. Screenshot_20200422-104744_Good%20Lock.jpegScreenshot_20200422-104834_Home%20Up.jpegScreenshot_20200422-104839_Home%20Up.jpeg

I never have had a problem setting up my Notes. Between backing up and using Nova Launcher, almost everything transfers from one phone to the next with little changes. But annoying? I hate Smart Lock! I can set it up and walk around the corner in my house and it quits working. It works two rooms away though! Or at the end of the driveway but not on the deck. Or in one room upstairs but not in the other. I keep trying, hoping, but no. I've set up the 'trusted location' countless times but it makes no difference.

Are you for real? Samsung is the most customizable outside of rooting? You CLEARLY need to expand your Android experience. Samsung is, by FAR, the most locked down of almost ANY Android device.

Android can be a handful.
Samsung's the most customizable android short of rooting.
You can make it act and look the way you want it to.
That's why Android and Samsung.

Bad gf's need wuv too... lots of it.

Figured Verizon took it out :(

This is one of the reasons I stick with Pixel phones. No bloatware (and no, I don't count Google apps as bloatware), and since I primarily use Google cloud services (Drive, Keep, Photos, etc.), there's no need to worry about 3rd party backup/restore apps. Whenever I have to set up a new Pixel phone (or if I have to do a reset and set the phone back up again -- which I don't think I've ever had to do), it's smooth sailing.

I realize that doesn't help you directly on a Samsung device, but it's just food for thought. One of the great strengths of Android (hardware and software diversity) also causes one of its annoyances (those companies can and will try to load up the phones with lots of their stuff).
Thank you completely agree with you! That's exactly why I love my pixel phone/Google phones in general versus other manufacturers.

I was tossing around different things that drive me nuts about Android until I read this post. I use On-body plus tied to my headset, the headset will always work while On-body depends on how it feels from hour to hour. Sometimes it's working, sometimes I can put it in my pocket and five minutes later it's locked. I didn't realize how much this annoys me until I have to wear gloves and a face mask all day.

I'm not in a face mask and gloves anymore, but the On-body has never, ever worked for me! Ever. Smart Lock as a whole is the biggest annoyance I've had with Android. And I can override most everything now since I bought a factory unlocked Note 9 a couple months before the 10 came out. Nova Launcher, PD MDM and backing everything up is the closest I can get to root without the root. But by god, I wish they'd find a way to fix the da**ed Smart Lock. And it's not like my phone doesn't know where it is! It does. It just doesn't care.

Android can easily be fixed. Have Samsung make Google phones. Samsung has the best hardware. The bloatware and and slow updates will be eliminated.

I'm curious to know how other Android phones are far less locked down than a Samsung. My only Android experience with Android has been Samsung S8 and Note 9. I had iPhones before that. When I first got my S8, it felt like the wild west because of how much more freedom I had compared to my iPhone 6. I realize that there's some things that are locked down like a few apps that cannot be uninstalled, but other than that, I can customize everything else to my liking. My impression from reading the forum is that it's either get a phone and disable or uninstall what I don't want; or get a phone like a Pixel and then have to add a bunch of third party apps that may not be as functional as features already built-in to the phone. Other than that, are there a host of other things that can be done on other phones that cannot be done on a Samsung?

Under the umbrella of my original post... I've noticed after deleting Yahoo everything and disabling Verizon messages if I restart the device, I have Yahoo everything once again on my device along with Verizon messages active again. I remember on my older Note devices there was a package called DT Ignite. If you disabled it, you wouldn't get anymore crapware. I've searched using PDP and this package is not there so what other craptastic piece of software do I need to disable to stop all these unwanted apps from reappearing? I also want to point out in case the original post hasn't been read, this is a device that I've been slowly setting up from a FDR.

I definitely understand what you are saying, especially with regards to Samsung. When I got my S10, setup was fun (but I like setting up new phones for the most part); but seeing the Samsung bloatware was a new experience for me, especially coming from a Pixel 2. In fact, I thought something was actually wrong with my phone when I suddenly got two alarms with different tones going off at once - and it was because I had unknowingly set up my Samsung and Google Clock apps.

There's definitely a bit of a hassle with bloat from other manufacturers. I seem to recall that my Honor 8 wasn't too hard to set up, perhaps because Huawei is closer to stock Androif than, say, Samsung or LG.

Apple is also less heavy with apps and other layers of manufacturer-OS - it's fluid and simplistic. I imagine setting up an iPhone is an easier process.

So tell me.
You bought a carrier phone.

Take something like the Microsoft square.

Drag all the bloatware you can't delete into it.

Now you can forget about it.

They need to STOP
Making carrier phones.

All the carriers are doing is screwing the customers.

Only buy a unlocked phone.

Only buy a unlocked phone.

I'd agree, but there are many people who would find it difficult to afford buying a phone outright. They benefit from the carrier subsidizing the cost with all of the junk they preinstall, as well as the installment payment option. I don't know if there are any prominent retailers who commonly sell unlocked phones on a lease-type plan.
