Why Is It So Hard To Get a Good Screen Protector?!

The struggle is real. I've been through 3 different myself and while the Whitestone looks promising you can't freakin' get it.

This is the best one I've found so far although it can pop off if you drop the phone.

I have that one on currently. It's not bad, but does have that damn rainbow effect in the center under some lighting conditions.

I agree the price is high. I haven't bought one yet, but so far it does look like the best option for a tempered glass screen protector, but that's just my opinion.

I don't want something that's going to produce a halo or rainbows, nor one that is prone to falling off, and I certainly don't want one that ends up obstructing the phone's proximity sensor. Ideally, I would prefer to pay less than $50. If that so far elusive unicorn fails to appear, then I guess I will end up springing for the Whitestone.

I never realized the Pixel 2/2 XL had curved screens until reading it here. Why are there no good glass screen protectors, is it because of the curved screen or that the phone is just too new?

It's very difficult to come up with a tempered glass screen protector that will give full coverage without creating an overhang and halo or rainbow effects. Some of these screen protectors were evidently intended to be curved but instead have just ended up with edges that don't stick to the screen. Some screen protectors appear too small as they stop short of the curve in order to avoid the lifted edges.

It's just my own personal opinion, but it's my guess that screen protector manufacturers decided to take the easier path and make dot matrix screen protectors in black frames, which appears to provide full coverage; but, as the black frame is the only area that has adhesive, it doesn't take too much to cause it to pop off the phone. The screen protector can be put back on again; however, after it's popped off and been put back on a couple of times, the adhesive begins to lose its ability to stick.

As if these issues were not problematic enough on their own, some screen protectors have interfered with the normal functioning of the proximity sensor.

It's my hope that other screen protector manufacturers will follow Whitestone's lead and start producing tempered glass screen protectors that use the liquid adhesive method which, according to this review at least, may be the way to go.

Finally got the power support. I was super worried about screwing it up, but it went pretty easy. Case fits nice with the screen protector, too.

I've had mine for 3 weeks and since it's full adhesive, there's no rainbow effect or falling off

You won't have any issues. This video is very detailed and shows you step by step.

I was hesitant as well as it wasn't first time installing the Whitestone Dome but watching that video, I did two installations with no issues.

Whitestone. It's full screen adhesive. Covers the flat portion and installation requires more work.

The power support is side adhesive but has a slight curve and is easy installation. Like all side adhesive, it's easier for it to pop off and accumulate dist underneath. It's also dot matrix. For this, you're better off buying amfilm or other tempered glass. You're paying $50 for name brand and for it being Google approved.
