Why is my battery life decreasing when on charge (Samsung Galaxy S4)

I put my S4 on charge and the battery life goes up so slowly then when I decide to turn it on because I need to make calls its at 4% ill try using it whilst on charge and the battery will decrease?

Going backpacking on Sunday and need a phone to keep in contact can someone give me an answer.

Have you tried using a different charger? Does it drain quickly when not charging or does it only charge slowly?

Might be the battery not being able to take a charge anymore. This one's a bit more difficult to test, but do you have any other batteries you could test? Maybe a friend's S4 that you could use your battery in and viceversa? If not, you might be able to go to any carrier store and let them test it out (just make sure you're nice to them, smile, and put on the 'sad puppy' face).
