Why is my browser diverting to a porn site or a 'virus detected' pop up when I browse the internet on Chrome?

My browser diverts to a porn site or a 'virus detected' pop up when I browse the internet on Chrome

I have a Nexus 5 running Kit Kat 4.4.4. Whenever I'm browsing on Chrome, I will get redirected to a porn site or a pop up will 'pop up' which says I have a virus and the only only button I can press is "OKAY" which redirects me to a site that says is scanning my phone...

I decided to reset to factory settings and changed all my account passwords, but the redirecting in Chrome remains. All apps I have downloaded from the Play Store. The problem started when I downloaded the GrooveShark app. I have since deleted that app and reset factory settings and still I get the same problem.

I have run multiple anti virus apps and none of them report a virus. Please help?

Welcome to Android Central! Try clearing your Chrome browsing history completely, including cookies, cached data, etc., both on your device's Chrome and on your desktop Chrome. Make sure you choose "From the beginning of time" when asked how far back to clear things. Since Chrome syncs everywhere, it's important to clear things on your computer as well as on your device.

My Nexus 4 has been infected too. Can't browse anything without being redirected somewhere else. Help!

Done clearing cache and browsing history. Doesn't help..

Haven't tried safe mode yet. But Settings>Apps>All doesn't help.

Cleared data going through settings app manager and selecting chrome then clear data. This worked for me no longer getting redirected to a porn site

Were you able to resolve this issue. I am getting same redirects to ****ty sites. My laptop and mobiles have been infected. Even Factory reset didn't help..

Before formatting mobile, pc or laptop in your home. first reset your router and modem.

format complete hard disk in your pc and in your phone sd card.
make sure take backup of your files.

Dont use google chrome sync because it will sync your old data as well even if you cleared all history.

so, after formatting your pc connect your modem and configure internet.

Note: if you wont reset your modem then malware will attack again. because dns settings has to clear in your modem otherwise it will redirected to old settings.

S5 running kitkat. Go to settings- applications- internet- advanced- content settings- websites- select problem website and clear cache. Job done.

Have had this intermittantly for a long time. None of the above has worked, think it may be some kind of hack as some sites do it regularly. Not a resolution, but screens like above dissapear by using back button and go back to original page then try again. Redirected to slimspot comes to mind. Best I can do.

When you install any app from Google play store on that time some additional malware are included in your device. You need to uninstall your chrome browser and reinstall it again or use some alternatives.

Hello,
I had the same issue, with any webpage link clicked directing me to other unwanted websites.
The solution below worked:

Setting > Application manager > Clear Data

I did it on all internet navigators: Chrome, Firefox and IE.
