Why is my Front Camera not Working

[Android Central Question]

This morning both cameras worked fine however, this evening when I tried to take a selfie using the front camera it kept switching back to the rear camera. I also realised that when I cover the sensors, the phone doesn't go black anymore.

NB: the rear camera works well and I don't get any error messages

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Does it persist after a reboot, or in Safe Mode?
