Why is my HTC One M8 camera slow and lagging when trying to take a picture?

Mine is doing exactly the same thing. Factory reset solved the issue, but it returned after doing updates, re installation of apps. I have other picture and video taking apps, and these seem to work normally. The issue appears ONLY to be with the pre installed CAMERA app. There must have been a software change over night that has made the app very unstable.

happened on mine yesterday just go into google play and install another camera its a prob with HTC expect it will be sorted soon

Go to the HTC Car App, tap Speak, download your language pack and the camera will work again. Crazy but it worked for me (I could not find HTC Speak on my phone).

This is gold !!!!!! Thanks man !!! How did you manage to have found this strange solution !!!! It worked like a charm. Bless you. ❤

This worked for me also and is totally bizarre. Why would an offline speech recognition language pack have anything to do with the camera!

Cheers, Rob.

Yes, I'd love to know what off the wall thinking lead one to here! Zillions of years fixing computers and I'd have never guessed that.

Amazing!! I had the same problem started yesterday, and with the download of the language pack, back to normal! Thanks guys! I was freeking out, because my phone just came back from the HTC Service assistance last week, for other reasons and I was thinking to send it back again... uffff
Thanks one more time!

I was struggling with issues for my m9 for a couple of days, so glad it got fixed so quickly!

As posted earlier. Go to the CAR app....speech....and download language pack.
Seems a little bizarre but it's worked for me.

I hated my HTC m8 camera. Took forever for the camera app to even open.

Ended up ditching it for a Note4, which I loveeeeeee.

Great! It works!
Exactly the same problem and now (strangely) solved!

Something's going on, I think. Mine started doing exactly the same thing around June 27. On June 28, my battery started dying no matter whether the phone was being used or not. Thought it was the battery--still may be--BUT today I have a complete FUBAR going on. 50 updates were theoretically coming in, and I keep getting "incomplete update" msgs and other msgs about programs that won't work. Checking OK doesn't do anything--the pop-ups keep coming back.

Re: HTC One M8 Camera slow and lagging when trying to take a picture

Yesterday 27/6 my camera was working fine, today 28/6 my camera is now very slow and lagging when trying to take pictures.

When i press the shutter button it does not take a picture for a least 10 seconds sometimes longer.

Has there been an update that is now affacting the camera? Is there away of resolving this issue?

I dont know if this will work on your phone. I got the same problem as you. Only thing to do is to do "Reset to default" in your Camera app. Open Camera > Setting ( Gear ) you will find it
