I have a LG K10... occasionally I fall asleep with my music on. When this happens, in the morning when my alarm goes off, after I dismiss it, my recent apps button is greyed out. I have found that going to Setting>Display>Home touch buttons and adding an extra button and removing it again make the recent button come back, but after locking the phone it is greyed out again. Only pulling the battery fixes it, just restarting does not help. Any idea as to why this may happen? my phone is using android 6.0 has 2gb of ram, still have at least 3gb of the 16gb storage onboard free. I am not using any launchers either.
