why is my ph making random dings when the screen is on

i have a samsung s5 sm-g900fd.
it keeps making a dinging/chirp sound when it is on. i put it on vibrate it stops or when i black the screen. it is very random and dosent do it all the time. also when on speaker the other person gets really bad reception. but in normal conversation there is no problem. my Q is should i replace the speaker and or the microphone or is the random chirping something else? thanks for any advice

Welcome to Android Central! Are those dinging sounds the same as your default notification tone, or completely different? Does it persist if you turn off NFC?

If the voice quality for the other person is only bad when you're on speakerphone, then it might be a problem with the secondary mic (the one at the top of the phone). The opening might be blocked by debris, or the mic itself might be faulty. The secondary mic is also used for shooting video -- is the audio on your videos also affected?

NFC is Near Field Communication, which is a way devices can communicate with each other wirelessly when physically close to each other (different from Bluetooth). If the phone is near something else with an NFC chip (like a credit card), it might make a distinct sound. This tends to happen most when people use wallet-type cases for their phone, keeping credit cards in the them.

You can turn it off by going to Settings>Wireless & Networks and looking for the NFC option. It's usually in your Quick Settings swipedown menu as well.

Remember that when recording a video, it'll get stereo sound. So if only one mic is faulty, the video might sound normal since the other mic is still working. Try listening to the video using headphones -- is the sound normal in both ears?

Jeez, my GS8+ does this all the time and it is unbelievably irritating. To have this damn chirping, even through phone calls. It may have something to do with my email notifications but its hard to tell because it mostly and sporadically just chirps without further explanation, like a pop-up reference to a new email or txt. I'm worried that the insufferable and useless Bixby is doing it just out of pique that he has less personality than Cortana, or her dead-headed cousin Siri, or even Google Boy or whatever it is they call it.
