Why is my phone showing app notifications intermittently?

I posted this question in the LG forum, but no one had any ideas. I thought maybe this wasn't LG specific, so here we go.

Ok, so for the most part, I love my new LG V30. But I have been having issues with intermittent notifications and it's getting worse. It actually started with my V20. First it was Calendar reminders sometimes popping up, sometimes not. I have missed meetings and missed paying bills because I relied on those darn reminders. There was no pattern to when they would work and not. On Wi-Fi, on LTE, screen on, screen off, etc. I thought it might be a problem with Business Calendar Pro, so I went back to stock Google Calendar notifications. Still an issue.

Then Google Hangouts notifications became intermittent. I will always get notifications on desktop or my tablet, but not the phone.

I hoped the new V30 would fix it, but not yet. In fact, I have noticed in the past week that Kik, FB Messenger, and some of my games (Futurama, Jurassic World Alive) haven't been popping up in the Shade or showing on the badge icons. Again, it's intermittent.

Yes, I tried a factory reset on my V20. It did not help. I have not tried one on the V30 yet.

Anyone else run into this? Any ideas? Thanks

Can you check to see if you get prompt notifications WHILE the phone is connected to a charger? If so, what you are experiencing could be a very common issue affecting many recent Android phones.

I tried it both ways for the past couple of days. It definitely missed more notifications while unplugged, but still missed a few while plugged in, notably my medication reminder at 9am this morning.

Okay, at least some of it might be due to Android doze that's causing delayed notifications for a lot of people. See the thread below and try disabling doze:
