Why is my phone so laggy?

I have had my Alcatel OneTouch Pop Icon for about 3 months now (Tracfone) and it has been getting slower and slower over the months to where it now laggs so bad nothing happens or it takes a few seconds or more to register. Usually registers multiple times.

I notice my data usage has been high even though I'm not using it. It seems the phone's built-in apps are consuming my data very fast. (60mb per month).

I have disabled data and enabled Wi-Fi and only renable data when needed. But lately my Wi-Fi shows constant data usage (up and down arrows flashing or on steady anymore)

I haven't installed any apps on this phone and think it may be malware or something?

Anyone have any clue?

I would try clearing the cache within recovery. It is most likely just getting to full.

I did a cold boot and all seems fine for now.

Maybe that cleared the cache as well?
