Android Central Question

My Tab4 is lagging drastically all of a sudden. It happens when playing certain games, using the keyboard, loading web pages and other random occasions. I have checked for viruses, PUPs, boosted, cleaned, cooled, emptied the cache, and still have 5GB of free space.

Any suggestions?

Welcome to Android Central! When you say you emptied the cache, do you mean a system cache partition wipe? https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-27862

Also, if you have a "RAM booster/cleaner" app installed, get rid of it. Those apps claim to improve performance by doing things that are completely opposite of how Android is designed to work, and therefore can actually impact battery life and overall performance negatively, rather than positively.

Thank you for your quick reply. I've now wiped the cache partition and removed the cleaning /boosting apps as you suggested. It seems to have made an improvement. Are there any apps you recommend for cleaning? I also noticed that the antivirus apps have tools included for boosting and such. Do you advise to not use them either?

Thanks again,

Nikki

Cleaning generally isn't necessary. If you want to clear all of the app caches (which can temporarily increase your available internal storage), you can go to Settings>Storage and tap the Cached Data heading -- that should give you the option to clear the app caches (which is different from the system cache partition).

Antivirus apps have those useless "boost" options because they're just trying to differentiate themselves from all of the other antivirus apps out there (and most of them are fairly ineffective anyway). "Boost" usually means killing all apps in RAM -- this will then lead to the system automatically reopening apps into RAM, because that's what Android prefers. Empty RAM is wasted RAM in Android, unlike Windows. So don't bother with boost features.
