Why is my Samsung S2 gear watch overheating when I make a phone call

Hi I just received my s2 gear watch and I could not set my voice mail up because the watch kept saying that it needed to cool down ?? Is this the normal?? Or is it a defect

Factory resets do not work. I had the same issue with my Gear S and now my Gear S2. When connected via Bluetooth, the phone can go for hours. But when running on it's own or making a call from the watches number, it burns up and eats the battery and over heats in 2 mins or less. TERRIBLE flaw.
