"Selfie" camera blurry

Hey there!

Just bought my HTC One M9 and I've realised that the selfie camera is very blurry! I've tried playing around with the settings but nothing! This phone is second hand, is it possible that it's broken? What would the charges be for fixing it?

Are you comparing selfie pictures to the regular camera pictures and getting the impression the pictures are blurry or are they straight out blurry and hard to see? I find the lighting and framing of selfies to look completely different, and selfies generally appear softer, but I wouldn't say they're blurry.

I bought a second hand M9 off ebay, and it had the same problem!

It appears that the front facing camera has issues focusing! It thinks it's focused, but it's definitely not 100% in focus. My face is slightly out of focus.
I have an M8, and even though the quality of the photo is clearly lower - it's *definitely* much sharper and looks way more in focused compared to the M9 I got.

Is there any chance this is a software issue of some sort? Either way, I've started the ebay return process, hopefully without any problems. But I figured it must be a defect.

Turning of Live Makeup in the settings menu helps. It is on by default.

That was the same thing I was thinking. I don't really think it makes my photos blurry, but I can tell a difference. I'm not a selfie guy (I've only used the ffc twice since April), but I thought that could be the culprit for the OP.

Another thing to consider doing is make sure that you clean the screen around the camera to make sure there are no smudges. Also try clearing the camera cache if nothing else works. Last resort is to inquire about repair or replacement, if it's covered under warranty.
